A new school year usually means backpacks, school supplies and a little excitement about what’s ahead.
For families navigating childhood cancer, a day that feels simply fun and normal can mean even more.
That was the spirit behind the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley‘s (PCFLV) back-to-school celebration, where local children and their families came together for an afternoon filled with activities, treats, and plenty of smiles.
Pennsylvania Skill Charitable Giving was proud to provide a $2,500 grant to help make the celebration possible.
A Day Made for Kids
And judging by the smiles, the kids made the most of it.
Face painting transformed cheeks into soccer balls, flowers, and colorful designs. Balloon creations became swords, animals, and some pretty impressive hats. There was cotton candy, frozen treats, games, and plenty to explore.
Most importantly, kids had a chance to do what kids do best: have fun.
The celebration also helped families get ready for the school year ahead. Children were able to pick up backpacks and other goodies before heading back to the classroom.
More Than a Back-to-School Celebration
PCFLV supports children battling cancer and their families throughout the Lehigh Valley.
While treatment and medical care are an enormous part of what these families face, childhood doesn’t stop during treatment.
There are still first days of school. Friendships. Summer afternoons. Favorite treats. And opportunities to make memories together.
Events like this give families space for those moments.
PCFLV Operations Manager Rhonda Johnson shared just how much the day meant to the organization and the families it serves.
