Volunteer fire departments are the backbone of emergency response in many communities across Pennsylvania. Often serving large geographic areas with limited personnel and resources, these departments rely on dedicated volunteers and community support to help keep residents safe. The Dorrance Township Volunteer Fire Department in Luzerne County is a shining example of that commitment.

Pennsylvania Skill Charitable Giving is proud to support the department through a recent donation that helped fund the purchase of a FAST Board, also known as a Firefighter Assist Search Team Board.

The Dorrance Township Volunteer Fire Department serves approximately 2,200 residents across nearly 50 square miles. Operating from a single station, the department is staffed by 16 active firefighters and supported by 14 active auxiliary members. Together, they provide fire protection, rescue services, and emergency assistance throughout the township and neighboring communities.

The FAST Board is a valuable piece of rescue equipment that can be used in several emergency situations. It assists with firefighter mayday incidents, confined space rescues, and ice or water emergencies. Its versatility allows first responders to react quickly and safely when conditions are challenging.

For volunteer departments, having access to the right equipment can make a significant difference during an emergency. Tools like the FAST Board help improve response efforts while providing additional support for firefighters working in dangerous environments.
