When the alarm sounds, volunteer firefighters don’t know what they’ll face.

A structure fire. A vehicle crash. A medical emergency. Every call is different, but one thing remains the same. Firefighters need dependable personal protective equipment (PPE) to safely respond when their communities need them most.

That’s why Pennsylvania Skill Charitable Giving was proud to support Good Will Steam Fire Engine Co. #1 with a recent donation to help replenish essential PPE for its volunteer firefighters.

Personal protective equipment is one of the most important tools firefighters use. Gloves, thermal hoods, and boots help shield first responders from heat, debris, and other hazards they may encounter during an emergency. Because these items experience heavy wear during training and emergency responses, they must be replaced regularly to ensure firefighters remain protected.

With the support of Pennsylvania Skill Charitable Giving, Good Will Steam Fire Engine Co. #1 was able to replace frequently damaged equipment and reissue newer, safer gear to its volunteers.

The department shared its appreciation for the donation:

“Good Will Steam Fire Engine Company No. 1 is proud to announce that we have received a grant from PA Skill Charitable Giving! With the money from this grant, we were able to replenish and reissue frequently damaged PPE for our firefighters, including gloves, thermal hoods, and boots. We want to thank PA Skill Charitable Giving for helping to keep our firefighters equipped with newer and safer equipment!”

Volunteer fire companies are the backbone of many Pennsylvania communities. Their members dedicate countless hours to training, emergency response, and protecting their neighbors, often while balancing full-time careers and family responsibilities. Having reliable, up-to-date equipment helps ensure they can continue serving safely and effectively.

Pennsylvania Skill Charitable Giving is honored to support organizations that strengthen communities across the Commonwealth. Whether it’s helping first responders, veterans’ organizations, nonprofits, or local community groups, these partnerships help make a lasting difference where people live and work.

We extend our sincere thanks to the volunteers of Good Will Steam Fire Engine Co. #1 for their dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to protecting their community. Their willingness to answer the call, day or night, is an inspiration, and we are proud to help support the important work they do.
